The real acid reflux symptoms you need to know

Typically, acid reflux symptoms include can include:

  • Heartburn (a burning sensation going up from the stomach / lower chest up towards your throat)
  • Regurgitating food back into your mouth
  • Pain in your chest
  • Swallowing difficulties
  • Hoarse voice, tooth erosion and asthma (caused by acid going into the lungs, mouth and throat

Why do I say the "real" acid reflux symptoms you need to know?

To permanently get rid of your problem, you have to look for other signs beyond those common symptoms I listed above.

Why? Because there are different causes involving your internal organs that can cause your acid reflux.

For example, if you and 2 friends have acid reflux symptoms, you may all have different internal problems causing it. It stands to reason, then, that you'd need different treatments to cure it (not just mask the symptoms)

Unless you identify and treat the real cause, you’re just treating the acid reflux symptoms, and your problem continues.

What other signs / symptoms do I need to look for?

You can start by determining if any of the following additional groups of associated symptoms seem to generally describe you:

Type 1 (The most common type)

  • Symptoms worse with stress
  • Irritability
  • Distension and bloating in your stomach
  • Pain in your ribs/flanks
  • Belching and nausea
  • Possibly headaches in your temples

Type 2

  • Burning sensation in your stomach
  • Strong thirst and you want to drink cold fluids
  • Strong and constant hunger
  • Painful, swollen and/or bleeding gums
  • Constipation (dry and hard stools)
  • Nausea / vomiting after meals
  • Your breath is bad

Type 3

  • Stomach pain
  • A mild thirst, usually for cool liquid (you probably only want to take small sips)
  • Dry mouth or throat
  • Feeling low grade fever
  • Your cheeks flush
  • Possible hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • A sensation of heat in your palms, soles of your feet and chest
  • Constipation (dry stools)
  • Less appetite
  • Full feeling after meals
  • Most of this happens late in the day or into the evening, and gets worse later into the night

If one (or more) of those groups describe you, then we know which underlying problem is causing the acid reflux. There are specific treatments, based in oriental medicine, that are very effective for each one of those patterns.
