Cures for IBS
You've already tried the conventional cures for IBS, like anti-spasmodic and anti-diarrhea medicines. And I'll bet you still have the problem, don't you? Well, that's to be expected! Why? Because... ...since it's a condition that conventional medicine has trouble explaining, it's certainly going to have trouble treating it! Conventional medicine simply has no cures for IBS. Fortunately, Oriental medicine does not have trouble explaining it... so treating it's easier, too. Oriental doctors have studied all sorts of digestive problems for thousands of years, and they know what causes them. All of them. In my experience, if you really want to get over IBS, understanding the Oriental medicine principles and its natural cures for IBS are where you'll find your answers. The people I've helped using these IBS treatments would agree. So, what does Chinese medicine say about IBS?Not much... honestly! That's because, from the Oriental medicine perspective, IBS doesn't even exist. O.K., I know your saying "Yeah, right…. tell me my constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating, etc., doesn't exist." Of course it does. But, what I'm saying is, there's too many different "groups of symptoms" you can have, too many "patterns" that could be occurring in you, to call them all by one name. For example, let's say that you and 2 friends all have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. If you have diarrhea… and friend "A" has constipation… and friend "B" has alternating diarrhea and constipation, then you all have different problems happening. So, you don't all have the same disease condition… regardless of the diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Take a look at the
symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
to to see the different "patterns" you could have... that are all typically just labeled "IBS". And, since you don't have the same problems happening, why use the same cures for IBS? How can natural cures for IBS work when conventional treatments won't? Two reasons: First, since Oriental medicine understands that all IBS is not the same condition, it treats you by the specific "pattern" of symptoms happening in you - and not by the fact that you've been given a diagnosis of IBS. Secondly, Oriental medicine works by triggering your healing mechanisms. You see, drugs don't cure you. Surgery doesn't cure you. Even Oriental medicine doesn't' cure you. The only thing that does cure you… is you. Your own healing mechanisms are the only real cures for IBS. That's the reason you've healed every time you've been sick, injured, had inflammation, infection, etc. But this time you're not healing, not getting over the problem. Why? Because you're not in "homeostasis" (i.e. internal stability). Your organs aren't functioning harmoniously with each other. So, what do you do? That's where Oriental medicine is so strong. Ancient Chinese doctors developed very effective cures for IBS that trigger your body's healing mechanisms to bring you back into "homeostasis" (internal stability). And, ultimately, that's the only way you ever heal from anything. Everything else just tries to stop you from experiencing the symptoms. What natural cures for IBS can I use myself at home? Oriental medicine uses several natural cures for IBS that restore your body's self-healing mechanisms. These include: - Acupressure
- Diet
- Herbs
- Lifestyle modifications
- An effective but little-known technique called moxibustion
Due to the limitations of a website, I'm going to give you some general (but effective) recommendations that can help most of the "patterns" IBS. (Except for the herbal remedies, where I'll explain the remedies specific to the "pattern" of symptoms you may have.) Important - Do not underestimate these techniques just because they seem simple. Oriental medicine can be deceptively simple. Remember - I use these on patients all the time and they work. Lets' start with: Stop causing your IBSWhy bother to treat it if you're just going to keep causing it, right? To get rid of your irritable bowel syndrome, you have to stop whatever behavior caused it in the first place, and that keeps it going. Sorry, but yes... you have caused this. So look at these
causes of IBS
to learn where to start. Calming your mindAs I explained on the
causes of IBS
page, emotional stress is the #1 cause of IBS. And, by far, the best way to decrease emotional stress is meditation.
You may not have a lot of control over the stresses that occur in your life, but you do have ultimate control over your reaction to them. Meditation trains your mind to stay calm (and hence, your nerves, digestion and bowels) regardless of what's happening around you.
It's far more effective than you probably realize. That's why millions of people from different cultures around the world have used it for centuries. In Oriental medicine, it's considered a treatment modality, just like acupuncture or herbal medicine.
Follow Chinese Dietary Principles
Since the wrong diet easily damages your digestive functioning, you may have to handle that to get over IBS.
Oriental medicine has thousands of years experience studying humans and food, and it has the best perspective on how we should eat for optimal health. The Chinese Dietary Principles can help you understand how and why to eat the correct way, and clarify issues such as
IBS and yogurt
and other dietary cures for IBS. Take a look at

Use Chinese herbal Remedies
Chinese herbal remedies powerfully treat the underlying cause of IBS that is specific to you... not just IBS symptoms in general. That's important because, as I explained above, you most likely don't have the exact same problem in your body, or "pattern", as someone else with IBS. So why use the same remedy?

for a better understanding and to see the remedies used with my patients. Acupressure (is very effective) In my practice, I use acupressure (or acupuncture), combined with the other treatments on this page. Acupressure causes your body to regulate the underlying organ malfunctions that are leading to your IBS., and it's an important part of treatment. Here's some of the effective points I use on my patients... Apply medium pressure to cause a slight "achy" feel (never painful), for a minimum of 60 seconds / 3 X day, with your finger, thumb or knuckle to: Point 1 - Starting from the web between your big and second toe, go up your foot about 1 ½ to 2 inches to a point before your first and second metatarsals (foot bones) meet. Point 2 - 3 inches below the lateral eye of your knee, 1 finger width lateral to your shinbone. (Great for almost any digestive / elimination disorder - has a regulating effect on digestion) Point 3 - 2 inches up your arm from your wrist crease, between the tendons. (Helps digestion / elimination and stress) Chinese Home Remedies Although the methods above are key to my treatment of IBS patients, you might find some of the suggestions on the Oriental
