Holistic Depression Therapy From Oriental Home Remedies
I use several holistic depression therapy techniques that are effective on my patients. Besides the more common ones used in my clinic, there's other treatments based on home remedies and folk medicine that are very inexpensive and simple. Warning: Don't be fooled by their simplicity... ...our upbringing in the world of chemicals, drugs and surgery has most of us believing a remedy must be complex to be effective. Nothing could be further from the truth. O.K., here's some holistic depression therapy secrets not commonly known, but effective for many people.
Acupressure to your foot with a hairbrush
Tap your soles with a hairbrush for about 5 minutes. Concentrate mostly on the place just below the ball of your feet in the center, 1/3 of the way from your toes to your heel.
Acupressure to your scalp with a wooden comb
You could use your fingers if a wooden comb's not available. With moderate pressure... Brush from the centerline of your scalp out to both sides, and... Brush from your forehead to the back of your hairline.
Exercise your chest muscles.
Depression is said to be energy ("Qi") that's stuck in the chest. Certain exercises that help circulation in your chest can be as effective as drugs (with no side-effects). These includes exercises like: - Rowing
- Rowing machines
- Shadow boxing or hitting a punching bag
- Push-ups
Massage your ears
Pull on your ears in different directions with your index finger and thumb. Do this in all areas of your ear. Breath slowly and deeply while doing this. This is an excellent therapy, not only for depression, but many other health problems as well.
Smiling in the mirror
This might sound like "new-age" holistic depression therapy, but it can really be helpful. Stand in front of a mirror and smile at yourself for one minute. Do this twice a day. This works because your subconscious doesn't know the difference between what's happening and what you "believe" is happening. You can actually "trick" your body into believing you're happy, causing it to respond with the appropriate "feel good" chemicals in your brain.
