Natural Remedies for Sexual Dysfunction

As much as we want to be sexually active for the rest of our lives and to preserve our sexual drives as we get older, unfortunately, aging will cause some significant changes. Such changes will usually occur when we are at our 40’s and older affecting both sexes. Particularly, among men, sexual dysfunction, such as impotence or erectile dysfunction commonly occurs. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to keep an erection long and firm enough during sex. Although, aging seems to play a role with the occurrence of erectile dysfunction, we cannot rule out other causes or events that could precipitate this condition.

What Causes Sexual Dysfunction?

In accordance to the beliefs of Chinese medicine, erectile dysfunction is a problem arising from the kidneys. The kidney essence or Jing is the foundation for sustaining life’s processes and procreation. It is believed that a person with kidneys that are filled with Jing will grow and develop normally with the ability in performing sexual functions effectively. The depletion of Jing from the kidneys is caused by aging, physical exhaustion, stress and many others, resulting to erectile dysfunction and other sexual disorders to take place. Low levels of Jing will make a huge impact on a person’s sexual activity. Therefore, the concept of Jing is an important factor in Chinese medicine, in restoring it to adequate levels and treating such conditions as erectile dysfunction.

Dietary Remedies for Sexual Dysfuntion

With the strong relation of impotence to erectile dysfunction, the Chinese recommend the intake of foods that strengthens the kidneys and rejuvenates the Jing. These foods are cordyceps, sea shrimps, Chinese chives, sea horses, sea cucumbers and sparrows. Try to add these foods to your daily meals and incorporate it to different recipes as it will effectively assist in treating and maintaining sexual function.

Acupuncture for Sexual Dysfunction

Treatment of erectile dysfunction through acupuncture has been practiced for many centuries. Many people find it effective over time as there are pressure points leading directly to the kidneys and which can help restore the Jing.
